Ryan Swindall at Accellion (a premier provider for secure mobile file sharing for enterprises) recently posted an article titled “IT – Thinking twice about the cost of free apps” (click on the title to read the post).
The article highlights key trends we are facing in an ever increasing mobile world. Staff are sharing files via free mobile apps, designed for the consumer. Some examples are Dropbox, Facebook Skype and the like. The applications are easy to use and intuitive, further driving their success in the consumer market segment.
The issue we face is they are not designed from the ground up to suit the needs of a business and have been proven to have security issues that can leave your corporate data exposed.
How do you solve this problem? Applications designed for business use must offer the same (if not better) functionality, offer relevant security provisions and be just as easy to use and intuitive as the free mobile apps designed for the consumer.
Bottom line, the enterprise designed applications must catch up to the next generation applications available to the every day consumer.
